About This Place
Noravank sits among the red and grey cliffs of the upper Amaghu Valley in Vayots Dzor. Its medieval buildings are known for their detailed stone carving and the work associated with the architect Momik. The most recognisable structure is the two-storey Church of St. Astvatsatsin, also called Burtelashen, with an exterior stair leading to its upper level.
For families, the contrast between the carved buildings and the surrounding cliffs offers plenty to notice from the grounds. Treat the exterior stair as an optional part of the visit and supervise children closely around steps. The architecture can also be appreciated without climbing to the upper church.
This is a religious heritage site. Respect worshippers and on-site guidance. Outdoor grounds and indoor spaces may have different access arrangements.
