About This Place
Saint Gevorg Monastery stands at the southern edge of Mughni, near Ashtarak in Aragatsotn. Its present church was built in the seventeenth century on a much older monastic site. Contrasting dark and reddish tuff, a domed church and an arched western hall make the architecture rewarding to explore slowly.
Families can look for changing stone colours and carved details, then pause to see how the bell tower rises above the entrance hall. This is a religious place, so keep voices low during worship and follow local guidance about entering. Observe carvings and historic structures without climbing on them, and let children explore close to an accompanying adult.
This is a religious heritage site. Respect worshippers and on-site guidance. Outdoor grounds and indoor spaces may have different access arrangements.
