About This Place
Sanahin Monastery lies at Sanahin near Alaverdi and shares UNESCO World Heritage recognition with Haghpat. Its medieval churches and associated buildings reflect a community where religious life and learning developed together. Sanahin was especially known for the arts of manuscript illumination and calligraphy, making it an interesting place to discuss how books were produced before printing.
Families can focus on the shapes of the churches and the spaces used for study and worship. Walk slowly through the historic complex and keep children beside you around carved stones and older structures. The nearby Sanahin Bridge is a separate stop.
This is a religious heritage site. Respect worshippers and on-site guidance. Outdoor grounds and indoor spaces may have different access arrangements.
