Aghavnavank Monastery

Churches and Monasteries Aghavnavank

A forest walk from Aghavnavank village leads to a medieval church near a protected grove of yew trees.

About This Place

Aghavnavank Monastery occupies a clearing in Dilijan National Park, reached from the village of the same name. The surviving Holy Mother of God church is the focus of this partly ruined medieval complex. Nearby, a protected grove of yew trees adds a distinctive nature stop to the historic setting.

This visit works best as a family walk rather than a quick roadside stop. HIKEArmenia describes the Yew Grove route as a three-kilometre trail beginning on a near-flat dirt road. Allow for your children’s walking pace, wear suitable shoes and stay on the paths around the ruins and protected woodland.

This is a religious heritage site. Respect worshippers and on-site guidance. Outdoor grounds and indoor spaces may have different access arrangements.
