About This Place
Saghmosavank stands at the eastern edge of Saghmosavan village, above the deep Kasakh Gorge. Its compact medieval ensemble includes the Church of St. Sion, built in 1215, a columned entrance hall and a book repository. Together, the buildings offer a close look at the architecture of a monastery once associated with scholarship and manuscript culture.
For a family visit, look for the different shapes of the church roofs and doorways before enjoying the gorge views. Keep younger children close near the canyon edge, and make the monastery itself the focus of the outing unless a separate gorge walk has been planned.
This is a religious heritage site. Respect worshippers and on-site guidance. Outdoor grounds and indoor spaces may have different access arrangements.
