About This Place
Sevanavank stands on the Sevan Peninsula, northeast of Sevan town, with broad views across Lake Sevan. Its surviving churches, dedicated to the Holy Apostles and the Holy Mother of God, belong to a monastery whose construction in 874 is associated with Princess Mariam. Their compact domed forms make a striking contrast with the open water around the peninsula.
Reaching the upper peninsula involves stairs, so allow children to set a comfortable pace and take breaks during the climb. Once above, families can compare the two churches and enjoy the lake panorama. Keep younger children close around steps and sloping ground.
This is a religious heritage site. Respect worshippers and on-site guidance. Outdoor grounds and indoor spaces may have different access arrangements.
